U19s Match Report: Solihull Moors U19s 3-2 York City U19s

Photo by Richard King York City U19s were narrowly edged out 3-2 away at Solihull Moors on Wednesday afternoon in the National League U19 Alliance North. Josh Binns, Sutton Greening, and Greg Baker returned to the starting XI after beginning on the bench in last week’s North Riding Senior Cup tie. Clear chances were limited early on, with the hosts producing the first in the 14th minute as a recycled corner was diverted into the side netting. Six minutes later, Solihull took the lead. A City defender was dispossessed outside the box, allowing an opposing attacker to dribble inside and thump in the first goal. The home side threatened again on the half-hour mark, working the ball to the right before striking fiercely narrowly wide of the post. Their pressure told again shortly after when a loose ball in defence was seized upon, and the Solihull forward advanced calmly before sliding it under Cam White to double the lead. The York goalkeeper soon made amends with an excellent low save to tip a driven shot behind, but Solihull were still on top. In stoppage time, they went close again with a clever free-kick routine that resulted in a long-range effort...

The post U19s Match Report: Solihull Moors U19s 3-2 York City U19s appeared first on York City Football Club.

York City Foundation launch first of its kind programme promoting “Positive Masculinity”

Masculinity has never been more hotly debated, with social media and pop culture splitting opinion—from toxic traits to the rise of positive and healthy male role models- what does it mean to be a young man today? This is a hugely powerful conversation that is needed to untangle the pressures and expectations facing men and boys now—exploring misogyny, identity, stereotypes, mental health, education, and feminism. There is a need to challenge outdated narratives and redefine what masculinity should be in an ideal world, which not only supports boys to become young men with positive mental health and masculinity, but is as relevant in the prevention agenda around violence against women and girls. The Foundation are delighted to be able to announce our new, first of its kind programme,” Positive Masculinity “ for year 5/6 boys for Primary Schools in York. This initiative has been created and designed, as a result of discussions with local teachers and funding sought from the National League Trust for us to be able to offer 10 Primary Schools the opportunity to access this programme for FREE. The programme has been structured to promote conversation and healthy debate about what it means to be a man...

The post York City Foundation launch first of its kind programme promoting “Positive Masculinity” appeared first on York City Football Club.

York City FC’s Disability Week

Last week, as part of York City FC’s Disability Week, supporter Dennis Chadwick was invited down to the LNER Community Stadium to sit down with volunteer Lewis about his role at the club. This was Dennis’ takeaway from the day… “On the 21st of November this year, I was invited to York City Football Club to interview Lewis Wilkinson. I was asked by Steve Dorey – YCFC’s Development Officer – asked me about interviewing Lewis. I made my way to the LNER Stadium along with: myself, Lewis, Lewis’s Mum (Clare) and Steve himself. “The purpose of the interview was to ask Lewis various questions about his voluntary work at YCFC! I asked how he got his work at the Stadium. He emailed the Stadium asking if he could get involved in some work. Lewis told me that he loves getting involved in selling programmes and seeing people to their seats before the home match begins. I gathered from his facial expressions that he loves every moment of it: he also pointed out that it makes him feel very happy and that he loves to help other people. He went onto say that he feels part of the community there and...

The post York City FC’s Disability Week appeared first on York City Football Club.
