• York City Ladies FC | Weekly Roundup | 01/03/26

This weekend, York City Ladies First Team travelled to Guisborough Town in the quarter final of the North Riding County Cup. Starting on top, Niamh Doody forced a great save from the opposition goalkepper with only three minutes on the clock, later followed by another exceptional save after a delivery from Milly Ash met the head of Sharone Buckle. Minutes later, Ruby Watt opened the scoring for York with a phenomenal strike outside of the box, before doubling the lead only two minutes later. With seventeen minutes on the clock captain Katie Astle was fouled in the box, converting the penalty to go ahead by three goals. Only two minutes later Astle added her second, assisted by Imogen Hayhurst after a forward run down the left side. After some impressive skill, Doody added the team’s fifth goal. Katie Varley helped build momentum with Ash beating her player and coming close. Ash’s cross was this time met by Megan Atkins for her first senior goal! Minutes later Watt bagged herself a first half hattrick with another strike from distance. HT score 0-7. Hayhurst was replaced by Ruby Shaw and Astle replaced by Sophie Bentley as the second half began. The Minstermen set a new club record on Saturday, securing a ninth league victory in a row. It was Ollie Banks’ 99th-minute goal that was the difference in a tough battle at Morecambe. The last time these two sides faced was back in October when two fight-backs from the Minstermen earned a point at home. • Stuart Maynard’s York City: Momentum, Belief And A Proper Promotion Push

Partner Content: BetVictor When York City moved quickly for Stuart Maynard in late August last year, it felt like a statement of intent. A few months on, it looks like one of the smartest calls the club has made in years. York are setting the pace in the National League and doing it in a style that’s easy to recognise, hard to stop, and built for the grind of a long season. Top Of The Table Results are the headline. At the time of writing, York City sit 1st with 80 points from 34 games, scoring 91 goals and conceding 32, resulting in a +59 goal difference. That sort of output isn’t a short hot streak; it’s evidence of a team that consistently creates chances, controls, and responds when momentum shifts. Maynard’s impact shows up in the details as much as the scorelines. York look prepared to deal with all opponents, they’re happy to dominate the ball against low blocks, but also comfortable of going direct when the need arises. All of this, combined with Maynard’s stellar record, is why you won’t be seeing York City appearing on the next manager odds pages anytime soon. A Clear Identity Maynard’s coaching...

The post Stuart Maynard’s York City: Momentum, Belief And A Proper Promotion Push appeared first on York City Football Club.
